Let’s get started!

If this is your first time accessing private speech therapy services, you may be wondering how it all works.

Get in touch.

Send us an e-mail or fill out the contact page on our website. We will reach out to you to discuss the concerns you may have about your child’s speech and language development. If you want to proceed with therapy, we can discuss service delivery options (in-person vs. online sessions) and book our first appointment.

Before your first session.

After our initial conversation, you will receive intake and consent forms by e-mail. These forms should be completed electronically and e-mailed back before your first session (if you do not have access to a computer or printer and are unable to complete the forms ahead of time, let us know!) We will review the content of the forms in detail with you at your first appointment to ensure you understand.

Our first visit.

The first session will be spent getting to know your child and learning about their skills. Depending on your child’s needs, more than one session may be spent assessing their skills and creating treatment goals. We can come up with a plan for frequency of treatment, which may vary depending on each child’s needs and/or your personal insurance coverage.

Treatment sessions.

After your child’s goal areas have been identified, we can begin treatment. These sessions will involve the SLP working on your child’s speech-language goals using toys, games, and activities. Sometimes it looks like we are just playing, but we assure you, play is the best way for your child to learn and build pathways in their brain! It is also important that parents/caregivers are active participants in speech-language therapy sessions to ensure they feel comfortable working on their child’s communication goals on a daily basis.

What happens next?

Future appointments can be scheduled at the end of your session, or you can contact your SLP at a later date to schedule. Home practice may be recommended in between sessions to help your child meet their goals sooner. Payment will be made following each session (see cost of services page for details). A receipt to submit for insurance reimbursement will be e-mailed to you.
