Frequently Asked Questions
Why private speech therapy?
There are many benefits to pursuing private speech-language pathology services. When receiving speech services at school, your child will likely be placed on a waitlist and may not receive speech therapy for a large portion of the year. When accessing private services, you can choose the frequency and duration of your child’s speech therapy. This allows for much faster progress to be made. Additionally, due to recent changes in how speech therapy is provided in schools/healthcare, your child may no longer be eligible to receive intervention through the public system. Another benefit of private speech therapy is it provides parents/caregivers the opportunity to be active participants in the therapy process. You will attend therapy sessions with your child and learn strategies to work on his/her goals at home on a daily basis.
Do you travel outside of Lethbridge to see clients?
Yes! Currently, I am accepting clients who live within 30 km of Lethbridge. Mileage fees will be charged for home visits at a rate of $0.70/km.
Is speech therapy covered by insurance?
Most extended health care plans provide coverage for speech-language pathology services just like any other registered healthcare professional (e.g., physiotherapy, chiropractor, massage therapy, etc.) Check with your insurance provider to determine how much coverage you will receive and whether there are opportunities to top-up your plan. We do not direct bill to insurance companies, but will provide you with a receipt that can be submitted for reimbursement.
Do I need a referral?
No, a doctor referral is not required for speech-language pathology services.
